"A Peculiar Friend Indeed"

There are few people that can say that they have had a faithful friend. A person who is willing to listen to you when you have problems. One who tells you like it is, no matter if you like it or not. A friend who if he didn’t agree would call you to the side and tell you one on one to get it together man.

A lot of us say that we are Christians, but to me Mr. Hunter showed his faith and he was one who was willing to help you if he could. He loved the church and especially the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church history. He was always ready to encourage others about accomplishing their dreams. His peculiar personality was magnifying, because he never met a stranger. His approach to issues was positive and he would listen to you and would think it out well before he shared his opinion with you.

As the founder of Young Adult Guidance Center, I needed to surround myself with individuals who have compassion about the problems that young people are faced with. He was my brother who was always the first to volunteer to speak publicly in orientating the community about YAGC program initiatives. Mr. Hunter was dedicated to the mission for over 35 years in helping the team provide over 17000 young people with a support system with our services at the Young Adult Guidance Center. Mr. Hunter was one of the founding members of YAGC board of directors. Mr. Hunter volunteered his time and effort by serving as Board Personnel Committee Chair, Board President and later Board Secretary from 1986 to 2021.

When I look back in retrospect to the 57 years of friendship, I had with Mr. Willie W. Hunter I can sum it all up in one word: 'Peculiar'

Yes, Mr. Hunter was peculiar in his ways and in a good way he demonstrated his faithfulness to God almighty in his actions to me. My memories of Willie truly remind me of a Scripture from the bible, Exodus chapter 19 verse 5: “Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people.” Yes, Willie was God's treasure and I thank God for sharing his treasure with me and the Young Adult Guidance Center, Inc.
